Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection in Our Churches 9:00AM - 10:30AM

  • Maybe you have heard of Safe Sanctuaries or Safe Gatherings.  Whatever term you use, we all know that it is important to keep our faith communities safe for those who are at higher risk.  Come learn how to establish training and policies to protect children and vulnerable adults and minimize the risk to your church.  Remember abuse is most common from people we know, let's help our people and those we serve to be safe and know God's love. This training will cover the three basic aspects of training, background checks, and record keeping.

Connecting Neighbors: When is YOUR Next Disaster Coming? 9:00AM - 11:30AM

  • “Connecting Neighbors” is an UMCOR program to:  1) Help families prepare for a disaster in their homes, 2) Help Trustees and Churches plan for Disasters to their churches and 3) Help churches develop a disaster plan to assist and aid county Office of Emergency Planning in times of disaster to help those in chaos.  You will be given a thumb drive to take and present this at your own church!

Preparing to Communicate with Gen Z 9:00AM - 10:30AM

  • As we continue to move into the 21st Century, a new generation is emerging and entering adulthood- this group is called Generation Z (Gen Z). Born in between the years 1995 and 2015, Gen Z’ers  are more diverse than any generation before them and are more likely to connect with those outside of their immediate influence group. Come join United Methodist Communications as we lead a discussion on how to communicate with and connect the brothers and sisters of Gen Z to the mission of the church. This workshop will also be valuable in helping church leaders learn how to support this group and explore communication trends affecting Generation Z.

Generations change. Cultures change. Throughout the history of the church, leaders have had to meet people where they are. Let us help you in being prepared to communicate with Gen Z.

Setting Up Church Safety Teams 9:00AM - 10:30AM

  • An unfortunate reality today is that churches of all denominations have been targeted for violence.  Churches also experience medical emergencies.  Many churches have taken steps to protect themselves by forming Safety Teams with members of their congregations, while others are considering it.  Some teams are armed, some are unarmed.  This comes with questions of liability.  Each church has to decide what is right for them and their congregation.

Richard Hunt is a retired Police Officer that has led the Safety Team at his 850 member church in Colorado Springs since it was formed shortly after the Active Shooter that attacked New Life Church, murdering 2 sisters.  He also conducts Use of Force training for Faith Based Organizations in Colorado.  He will lead a discussion about Safety Teams and where to find resources on how to form, train and insure them.

UM Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM)  9:00AM - 11:30AM

  • This is your chance to learn about UMVIM,  all you ever wanted to know!  Hear firsthand stories from folks who have had life-changing experiences on a mission trip. Find ways that you and your church can be involved both domestically and internationally.  Bring and share your experiences, we want to hear your successes!  Why should  you be affiliated with UMVIM for a mission trip, not just go on your own?  Learn what qualities make a good Team Leader and what is involved. Please join us!
